My son is 14 and may need braces. Will the insurance cover this?
This is a question we get a lot. Will dental insurance cover orthodontic procedures such as having braces fitted? The answer is usually no. The fitting of braces is often considered as an ‘elective treatment’, meaning it is not essential and may only be required for cosmetic reasons.
There may be cases where your dentist decides that braces are necessary and therefore their fitting is not only for cosmetic reasons. In these cases your insurance may cover the cost of treatment up to a certain level, or even 100% of the cost.
In order to be certain you would have to contact the insurer. To find a list of UK dental insurers see our dental insurance comparison table.
