I have had oral sedation done.I had to have my two bottom influenced wisdom teeth removed and it was no issue. I was essentially knocked out..couldn't feel anything. I also was giving valium until you are sedated. After the sleep or sedation I was just a little hazzy but could walk as well as be aware of the doc without any problem.

Hi, I also have the same query and expected this answer, however what if the procedure is not cosmetic and instead is a functional problem, ie teeth are no longer aligned? Would anyone cover this?

Thanks

I don’t think every dentist does sedation dentistry. The dentist has to complete a course to certify him or her in sedation dentistry before they can legally administer the sedation medications. However, most dentists do use Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) as that is not considered “conscience” sedation. When the gas is used the effects are immediately reversed by the administration of oxygen, so you can drive and return to your normal schedule. The oral sedation is much stronger and you will remember virtually nothing of the appointment. You must have a driver to receive oral sedation too. Good Luck!
