My gums have always had trouble with bleeding. I used to not take care of my teeth but once I started flossing I noticed an improvement. But it hasn't stopped. They still bleed if I miss a flossing (like running out of floss). While I bleed less it's still there and red, sore, and receding gums on the bottom. I brush the way the dentist tells me to. Rinse with antiseptic mouthwash.

Honestly, what more can I do?

It could be that you have or are getting a gum disease, most likely gingivitis. It could also be something more serious such as leukemia and platelet disorders. If that isn't it, it could just be plaque

If you experience minor bleeding of the gums while brushing teeth a hygeinest will usually tell you to brush more, not less. And to do this in a circular motion concentrating on the gum line, where the teeth become visible.

However in this case I would recommend you book a dental appointment.

I think digit maybe being a little extreme, but if the bleeding persists from the gums you should certainly see your dentist straight away and describe exactly what you are experiencing.

My gums normally bleed when I brush too hard or I haven't flossed in a couple of days, I would use some salt water to gargle if the bleeding takes too long to stop. That works for me.

Thanks for the replies. My last physical with a doctor didnt reveal anything wrong with my bloodwork...so I'm not concerned about leukemia. Hygenists have said the beginnings of ginigivitus, but the brush the right way, floss, rinse is always the treatment. I'm wondering if there's anything beyond that. I do have to go to the dentist again soon, it's been a while...but thought I would ask.

Sometimes in an effort to get my teeth extra clean, I brush hard and it bleeds, but I realize it mostly happens when I don't floss much.

My teeth typically bleed each and every time that I brush them. My dentist has always said that if they bleed, you should brush more, because it means you are not brushing enough.

My gums have series problems with bleeding yet anytime i've been to the dentist he said it's a good thing. Gums bleed when you havn't been taking good care of your teeth and they get a good brush apparently, yet it seems to happen constantly even though i'm taking care of my teeth.
