    Hi Guys,

Just found this new forum (looking good!) and hoping someone is around to help me, I have had severe gum ache on the top tier (left side) for the last 2 months or so - I think my wisdom teeth must be struggling to come through, is it likely I will need to have it removed?

If it helps, I am male and 22 years old and this is the first pain I have experienced with it.

I had aches below the gum line for several months before the gum began to bulge. It was another month or so then before the tooth actually managed to break through, and some six months before it was full length.

They are not quick things so it having taken two months already is not an indication that it will automatically have to be removed. Removal will depend on over crowding.

Have you had any other orthdontal work done in your life time? As I understand it, the use of orthodontics tends to increase the risk of wisdom tooth impaction because spreads over crowded teeth, and hence can push back into the area your wisdom teeth would come in.

OrthoNeedy, thanks for that information. I did not know that orthodontal work done in the pass can have an effect on the growth of the wisdom teeth.

I also thought that just about everybody had their wisdom teeth removed, I really didn't know that there was much of a choice. Lots of good information in this thread so far. :)

The normal is not having them removed. Dentistry of that kind wasn't available till a century or so ago-what do you think people did before then?

Normally the teeth come in just fine and all is well. But as mentioned when teeth are pushed back with braces then there may not be room.

You will probably have to have them removed, Wisdom teeth and cause a lot of problems and it's something that many, many people suffer with unfortunatly. Have you consulted your dentis on the matter?

I had a similar problem, it took about 6 months for the whole process, it hurt like crazy then after a few month the teeth barely showed then it hurt again. I had to buy a cream to rub on it, it was that bad.
