Do you ever find that your dentist, or even the dental assistants, are just too rough on your teeth? I find that this happens a lot, and I wonder if it's being done for any particular reason, or if they are just unaware of how painful it is. I do find that the dental assistants are typically a bit gentler than the actual dentist.
I actually know exactly what you're talking about. There has been a couple of times where I actually had to tell the dentists to be more gentle, because sometimes they just go at your teeth like there's no tomorrow, and it really hurts!
Have you switched dentists because of it? I can't decide what's more of an inconvenience, dealing with a dentist with a heavy hand or looking around for someone in my insurance's list of covered dentists.
I think that at times extra force IS required, especially when they are preparing the tooth to be pulled out or something. However, if the dentist is rough for no reason then I will either switch or ask them to try and be less rough
I'm talking about a general roughness. I can see a few times where the dentist needs to use extra force, but there's no reason for it during a routine cleaning or something, right?
The only times that I could say that force was excessive would be when they were pulling so hard on my mouth (not the teeth but trying to open my mouth more than it could go) that they split my lip. The actual working on the teeth I cannot complain about (thankfully).
Yes, I have had that experience. I think they just figure they are doing their job getting rid of plaque and all, that they are not so in touch as to how their clients are feeling.
