I am wondering if anybody here has ever had a dental surgery where they actually put you to sleep to go through treatment. I am curious as to why they would choose this method in comparison to just going through with the procedure while you are awake?

I have had, yes. I had to have wisdom teeth cut out, and it was far back in my mouth, they were impacted and it meant cutting gum away and then drilling the tooth out. They generally don't think that they can keep your mouth open enough and mess that much that far back in your mouth when you are awake I believe.

I did have surgery on my mouth, and that was more than ten years ago. I really don't remember what exactly they did to my mouth. I think I had a couple root canals, and they took out a few teeth. I don't know if they took my wisdom teeth out at that time as well, because I was just a kid.

Some of these procedures sound very painful! I can't imagine having such a surgery as a kid, it sounds pretty big. Root canals are one of my worst fears when I go to the dentist, so if I had to have one, I would love to be sleeping.
